There is a force in the world that stops people from being successful. Steven Pressfield calls it The Resistance. Some call it Procrastination.
We all have important things to do. Some of the things are obligations and responsibilities. Others are the steps we need to take to fulfill our purpose in life. Outside of those important things are things that are unimportant. They don’t move us towards our goals. These are the idle things we do to avoid doing what we need to do. They are distractions from the important stuff. Excessive entertainment. Binge eating. Checking e-mail. They are often indulgences beyond healthy levels.
Act on it
Open up your calendar for the next week. For each day, block out just one hour of time to have all to yourself. Protect these time blocks like you protect the most important time blocks of your life. They are obligations that nothing other than a real emergency can push aside. You might already be busy and have trouble finding blocks of free time. The easiest solution is to wake up an hour earlier.
With these one-hour time blocks, you will focus. You will sit down and do the work. Tie yourself to your chair if you have to. You are not allowed to do anything else. Don’t surf the web. It’s only an hour. I know you can focus for an hour.
