It’s the greatest cliche in the entire self-improvement industry. Follow your dreams. But it is a cliche because it is advice that has been true for many generations. Sometimes we disregard cliche advice because it feels outdated somehow. We think there must be an updated version somewhere that works twice as well.
But no. Don’t fall for the recency fallacy. Just because advice is new doesn’t mean it’s better than old advice. Only the advice that works is passed down through the generations. Go ahead and follow your dreams.
Act on it
Get a pencil and paper. Think back to your childhood. What did you want to be when you grew up? Write it all down. What were you best at when you were growing up? Write it all down. Now think of the future. What do you want to do before you die? Write it all down. How do you want people to remember you when you die? Write it all down.
Now take a good look at everything you wrote down. Pretend you had 10 billion dollars wired into your bank account this morning before you woke up. What would you do today? What would you do this year? What would you do five years from now?
Now write one paragraph to answer this question: What is your mission in life?
This is your Mission Statement. This is your Personal Legend. Starting now, take the first step towards your Personal Legend.
