Since I was a child, my weight has never been stable. I would either gain a lot of weight rapidly or lose weight fast. Since I was 18 years old, my weight has bounced around between 120 and 180 pounds. Because of this, I weigh myself every day so I can make sure it doesn’t unexpectedly change in the wrong direction.

Over the years as my metabolism slows, it gets easier to gain weight and harder to lose weight. I’m sure many people can attest to this being true. I’ve always done a lot of self-experimentation on diet and exercise. I know how to lose weight fast, and I’ll tell you the secret now: diet and exercise, it’s that simple.
Diet
There are hundreds of different diets out there. The truth is that almost all of them work if you follow them strictly. Buy any diet book and follow the advice to the letter for a few months. I prefer the Slow-Carb Diet.
A few tips: When you eat, eat high-quality foods. Eat lots of vegetables and protein. Eliminate all sweets from your diet. Make carbohydrates only a small part of your diet. Drink plenty of water. In general, try only to eat whole foods and drink water. The less processed your food is, the better.
Exercise
Do weight training for burning fat. Do cardio for burning calories. There are thousands of options for exercise, so try different things and find what works for you. This is what works for me:
- Take a few minutes to stretch each morning.
- Do at least 10 minutes of strength training exercises each morning. It can be pushups, weights, kettlebell swings or anything else that gets the muscles working.
- Burn at least 1,000 calories in cardio exercises each day. For me, this takes the form of one and a half hours on an elliptical machine while listening to music and reading (to kill three birds with one stone).
My Results
Doing this, I typically lose about half a pound a day. My weight would go down about 3 pounds after sleep and exercise, then I would regain 2.5 pounds throughout the day from eating and re-hydration, for a net loss of about half a pound a day.
