Beyond the technical standards that make the Internet work, there are few standards for websites to follow. “About” pages are standard, to show confused web travelers what they are looking at. “Contact” pages are standard, so people have a channel to communicate with the website owner. “Privacy Policy” pages are standard, to disclose how the site uses collected data.
Internet entrepreneur Derek Sivers has proposed a new type of standard page—the “Now” page. The purpose of the Now page is to tell people what the owner of the website is working on at the moment. Hundreds of people across the Internet are now following Derek’s lead and putting up pages showing what they’re doing right now.
Having a Now page is helpful to both the website owner and the audience. The website audience gets an idea of what’s in store for the future of the site. The site owner benefits from the public accountability and focus of having current projects written down and shown to everyone.
