Many of the world’s top performers practice meditation. I view it as a way to get your mind in the right place before you start work.
There are many different types of meditation. It is worth exploring which kind of meditation works best for you.
Here are some of the more popular forms of meditation:
Prayer
Prayer is actually a form of meditation. Whether aloud or mentally, you are reciting a mantra and expressing your wishes to some higher form, whether it be God or Nature or The Universe.
Silence
Perhaps the easiest way to meditate is to just sit in silence. It is harder than it sounds, at least for people with hyperactive minds. To start, set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes, close your eyes, and just sit in silence until the timer chimes.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves “living in the moment.” You sit quietly, being aware of the present state of your body and your surroundings. You are aware but non-judgmental.
Gratefulness
Gratefulness is just what the word implies. You reflect on the positive things in your life for which you are grateful. You take your mind off of negative thoughts and focus on the positive things that make you happy. You send your love and gratitude to those positive aspects of your life and be content.
Vipassanā
Vipassanā is one of the oldest methods of meditation. It means to see things as they really are. Read more about it on Wikipedia.
Transcendental Meditation
Transcendental Meditation is a trademarked, proprietary form of meditation. It costs money to learn its techniques, but many of the world’s top performers believe that it is well worth the costs.
