Most journalism we see on the internet is drawn from the media of just a handful of most influential countries in the world. Many people go to BBC News for world news, but even then the news is filtered through a Western point of view. The major news events from minor countries are often left out.
I propose a website that shows on its homepage the biggest news item from each of the countries of the world (there are almost 200 countries in the world). The news articles should be ordered by the population of the country. That way, the top story will be the story affecting the most people.
For example, the main headline of the front page will feature the top news story out of China. Other featured news stories will be top stories from India, the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil. It is followed by a mid-section of the page, with headlines from Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Egypt. Then the rest of the 175+ countries are listed. When you scroll to the very bottom of the page, you can see the top headlines from tiny nations like Niue, Tokelau, Vatican City, Cocos Islands, and the Pitcairn Islands.
One site that is similar to this idea is this listing of news media from each country.
What is the best website for international news? Let me know in the comments.
